Chamber & DEVCO Merge!!

One of the best aspects of a career in “Chamber work” is the opportunity to be involved in so many positive activities and initiatives as well as with so many positive and talented people. For me one of the most exciting of these opportunities has now come as a result of the merger of the North Platte Chamber of Commerce and the North Platte Development Corporation. The newly formed organization, the North Platte Area Chamber of Commerce and Development Corporation, has unlimited potential to positively affect the business climate and community of North Platte. Our careers here at the “North Platte Chamber & Development” offices are now in “Chamber and economic development work” and I’m excited about that!

Mission Statements:

The North Platte Area Chamber of Commerce serves our members and community by enhancing the overall business climate and by developing the economic and cultural interests of the area.

The North Platte Development Corporation serves to retain, expand and attract preferred employers that offer good quality jobs throughout Lincoln County.

As indicated by these mission statements, the Chamber and DEVCO were both good organizations doing things to improve and develop our community. In this situation, we feel that these two quality organizations and staff members can do even more working together as one. One organization working toward a common purpose will create an efficiency of efforts and will result in less chance of any duplication. One staff and one board will be working toward the same goals, the most important of which will be “what’s best for North Platte”.

In the upcoming days and weeks, the newly formed board of directors, consisting of the board members of the former Chamber and DEVCO organizations, along with all of the staff will be working diligently to put together the structure of the new organization. Committees have been formed to include the topics of Executive Director Search, Finance, Personnel/HR, Marketing & Communication and Building Remodeling. It is our expectation that our members should see this merger as seamless and that our service to our members and to the Lincoln County area will continue as it has and will only improve as time goes on. You can be assured that the North Platte Area Chamber of Commerce and Development Corporation means business…the business of making the North Platte area even better than it already is!
